Great East Lake Camp

BY

Russ Tyson

Yesterday, Jessie and I had the opportunity to present our Tier-1 Concepts for renovations and additions to a home on Great East Lake. While the recently purchased existing house provides the family with a retreat at the waters edge, it lacks a few features important to our clients.

Our design solution will rearrange the existing entry path so that it does not go directly through the middle of the kitchen. A small addition to the home will provide a more welcoming and protective entry porch, a foyer, a generous mudroom, a larger master bedroom, and extra kitchen space; including a walk-in pantry. On the lakeside of the home, the current enclosed porch overheats on summer afternoons and it’s more solid walls block views to the lake from the interior of the home. We propose to re-configure it into a more open screen porch that will provide protected outdoor living space, while also providing the interior with more natural light, ventilation, and better views to the lake.

New windows, siding, and roofing will provide for better energy efficiency, added durability, and a more rustic camp aesthetic.
