Project Location: Greater Portland, Maine

Over the years, our client’s family had outgrown their existing coastal cottage and wanted to enlarge their home in order to better accommodate visiting adult children, grandchildren, and guests. An upcoming family wedding dictated that improvements be made as soon as possible. With the wedding approaching, we collaborated with Wright-Ryan Homes, Carroll Associates Landscape Architects, Sarah Steinberg Custom Designs, and structural engineer Albert Putnam to deliver the design and construction on time for the event.

The resulting design provides new guest space, within an addition, that is linked to the original cottage with a glass breezeway. Expanded outdoor living spaces, including a wrap-around porch and terraces better connect the interior to the view overlooking Casco Bay.

The additions and renovations to the existing home, include a wrap-around porch, a new mudroom and laundry, a home office, and stairs to outdoor gardens. The linked addition includes a garage, workshop, and garden room on the main level. On the upper level, four new guest bedrooms and two shared baths are accommodated. The elevated height offers wonderful views to the gardens and waterfront below.
