Conservation of Natural Resources

We consider ourselves lucky to be surrounded by the natural beauty of Maine and New England and take the task of designing homes that complement rather than extract from the environment seriously. Buildings use an unsustainable amount of raw materials globally. A concerted effort to reduce our consumption of natural resources will ensure that the very thing that draws us to this place will continue to exist.

Considerations for Conserving Natural Resources:

  • Choose quality of space over quantity of space
  • Use local materials
  • Use renewable natural materials
  • Consider materials with recycled content
  • Conserve water with efficient plumbing fixtures
  • Eliminate the need for landscape irrigation
  • Use wood from managed forests
  • Minimize construction waste
