Harraseeket Guest House

In the design of this traditional guest house, we located the building away from the main house to provide for privacy between the two residences. A timberframe bridge connects the two realms over a ravine. Careful positioning of the small home within its wooded waterfront lot allows it to take full advantage of the site’s natural features including coastal views, excellent solar orientation, natural ventilation, and existing topography. The architecture's strong symmetry in plan provides for an open-plan relationship of spaces on the main level and a simple organization of private bedrooms on the upper level. This designed symmetry is expressed in the exterior architecture, yet balanced by a continuous trim board that wraps the home and helps divide the vertical massing.
