Jessica Buckley

Office Manager

Jessica's path into art and architecture began with an appreciation for the meanings that space and form convey. Her academic path weaves through the liberal arts foundation of Sarah Lawrence College, the first-year architecture program at the University of Miami, and ultimately to an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, equipping her with a distinctive, multifaceted perspective.

Her professional narrative is one of building bridges—between artist and audience, concept and reality. Growing up in Washington, DC, where her parents founded and ran a successful architectural practice for over thirty years, Jessica was immersed in the creative and practical pursuits of architecture from an early age. After honing her skills producing award-winning proposals for Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Jessica channeled that expertise into the civic realm as a Public Art Coordinator for the City of New Haven, where she stewarded a historic collection and developed calls for new public installations. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to work directly with artists, she founded and directed Matter Gallery LLC, producing solo exhibitions and fostering the careers of emerging and mid-career artists.

This firsthand understanding of an artist's needs naturally extended to her role providing comprehensive support to artists, from managing databases and residencies to coordinating the intricate logistics of artwork transportation. Jessica's own practice as a visual artist, including a residency at the Hewnoaks Artist Colony and working as a teaching artist, informs her administrative and strategic work in the lived experience of creation. She is a professional who not only manages and promotes artistic vision but understands it from the inside out. In her own work and in collaboration with others, she explores the dialogue between object, space, and viewer.
