This cabin in the woods is sited to take advantage of its site-specific design, with strong solar orientation, views and access to the water's edge, natural ventilation, and durable low-maintenance materials.

Deep overhangs, cantilevered heavy-timber structure, and a modern use of vernacular cabin forms, provide a contemporary feel to the exterior yet blend the architecture into the site features of heavy tree stands, rock outcroppings, and wooded paths.

The design responds to the need for a highly efficient use of interior rooms that are linked with an open plan arrangement of spaces, and total conditioned area remains below 2,500 square feet. In addition, there is a strong interior to exterior relationship through the design of a covered entry porch, screen porch that opens to the west and views to the water, as well as exterior spaces off the primary bedrooms.
