Bunganuc Woods House Sketches

BY

Russ Tyson

Earlier this winter, we had the opportunity to present two design schemes for Bunganuc Woods House; a 2,500 square foot home in Brunswick, Maine for a couple nearing retirement.

Both site-specific design solutions, place the home towards the northeast corner of this heavily wooded site. A small clearing is created to the south that affords a sun-pocket and arrival zone at the end of a long shaded driveway.

Our clients prefer scheme-A. They like how the concept offers more opportunities for natural day-lighting and views to the woods beyond. The scheme also includes a kitchen, dining, and living space, on the first floor. The main living space shares a south facing terrace with a private master bedroom suite. Visiting family guest spaces, including bedrooms and a bathroom, are all located on the second floor.

The detached barn/garage will serve as operations center for gardening, kayaking in Casco Bay, and stocking feed for the resident black-capped chickadees.

We working towards getting the design ready for construction in the Fall of 2015.
