site conditions: A partially restored antique cape with two rustic single story additions.

client program: First floor: a new kitchen, a large family room, and entry with mudroom, a screened porch, a powder room, a laundry, a new stair, and lots of storage. Second floor: a master bedroom with walk-in closets, a master bath, a child's bedroom and a new bath for the children to share, and a connection to the upper level of the existing cape.

design response: Replace subsequent additions with a new one which doubles the size yet respects the character and scale of the original cape. New spaces are open sunny and airy with combined old and new materials–a slate sink, stone counters, stainless steel appliances, and low voltage lighting.
