Rocky Bluff
Coastal Maine
Completed in 1993
Photography: James R. Salomon
site conditions: An historic hotel site (burned down in 1914) with adjacent 100 foot tall stone tower (still standing) on a rock bluff.
client program: A year-round character house which is to remain part of the village with 4 bedrooms, 2 studies, a sleeping porch and an open floor plan emphasizing outside living.
design response: A carefully sited shingle style 'character' home, with adjacent "in-law" guest house, which tempers the difficult topography with garden spaces and aligns itself on the site with vestiges of the original structure.
