site conditions: Abandoned, Fire Control Station built in 1890’s for US Army coastal batteries and gun emplacements; stone and ledge landscape some trees and undergrowth, locations of previously removed structures.
client program: New island residence.
design response: Restore structure and repair vandalized glass roof, connecting bridge to new open plan structure with living space, kitchen, bath, bedroom, and upper level deck. Contemporary structure designed with concrete floor, hemlock timber frame, galvanized interior wall panels, Corten steel plate siding, Galvalume roofing and siding, Polygal translucent window walls, Bonneville clad windows and cedar decking.
