Little Diamond Island, Maine
Completed in 1991
Photography: Brian Vanden Brink
site conditions: An existing pier and boathouse workspace built in 1860 located on a island near Downtown Portland.
client program: An adaptive reuse of the existing shell into a three-season coastal residence which maintains the original character while incorporating an open informal great room, bedroom, bath and kitchen.
design response: A revised structure with the second floor partially removed and full length dormers added to provide more light and interior spatial relief, with contemporary touches through lighting and exposed structure. 1993 Winner - AIA Maine . Award of Excellence
